Dennis,

Drove his '87 Carrera from Philly to Carmel last month. After 3500 miles drive it needed about a quart of oil. The car performed flawlessly in 5 days of driving and very satisfied with its performance. He's not a car guy like me but he's willing to learn. A week before I left for Philly, I started removing the old cracked dashboard and let him installed the replacement dash. He did a good job. He has a lot to catch up but he's willing to learn.

Last week he called and informed me that the car was running very rough during idle. So my immediate reaction was 'what have you done?' He said that he added 2 quarts of oil while the car was sitting on the inclined driveway!!!!! WFT.

After he drained about 2 quarts of oil, the car came back running like it should.

Good to know he has Santa watching over him...

Tony,
You know we're all going to give him a hard time for not getting pictures up because of who Santa really is....

Dennis,

The cross country drive with my son went very smoothly except for two (2) incidents due to my stupidity or carelessness:
1). At the end of the second day at Tulsa, OK while checking the oil level, I inadvertently dropped the dip stick into the oil tank. It was getting dark and no tools to retrieve it back. Fortunately, the maintenance guy at Marriott was able to retrieve it after several minutes and it was a relief!!!!!!
2). On the third day of the trip from Tulsa to Albuquerque, I passed an OK state trooper cruiser at 80 mph on a 70 mph section of the interstate!!!! I was side by side with the cruiser when I noticed the state seal on the door and overhead lights. Hit the brake and passed the cruiser and immediately the multi-colored lights were blazing. Pulled over on the side of the road and handed my driver license and car registration to the state trooper.

Several minutes later, he handed back the driver license and registration with the 'ticket'. On the ticket or citation it said........."given a warning to drive carefully!!!!!!! What a break and luck I got. So the next 200 miles to the state boundary (Texas) was driven with care and caution not to violate the traffic rules. It was a great feeling when I crossed the state boundary and resumed my regular driving habit (not too good).

Considering that the car was on the lift 24 hours before the trip started with a problematic starter and did not have enough time to test drive it thoroughly after dropping the engine/trans weeks before, the car did perform flawlessly. I was not expecting it to be this easy and fun driving 3500 miles in 5 days. BTW, I'm few weeks short of my 70 year birthday and proud to say I did it and will do another one soon. This time it would be West to East trip.

I have had the pleasure of meeting Tony a few times and spoken to him on the phone as well. He is a great guy. I spoke to Tony just a few days before Tony and his son embarked on their adventure. He was so excited to take the trip.

Congratulations on your making it safely and the memories you both will have for years to come.

A&J you are lucky to have a father like Tony. I envy you. Enjoy the ride.

Don
