WHy does my lock cylinder look like this?

I disassembled my door locks because i wanted to rekey them. But after the disassembly i saw that the lock cylinder looks different as usual. The pins are not the flat type but round shaped. I weren't able to remove them. Is there any special technique to rekey this type of cylinder? This is a '69 door lock.

stick the new key in and dress down the tumblers that stick out. fine grind stone/dremel.

Over the years I have found lock cylinders that the individual pins would not come out when the lock was disassembled.
It appears that over the years of use, the pins get a little burr on the key end...and this prevents them from falling out.
John is correct...just put the new key in and file or grind the pins to be flush.
If the new key does not push up enough pins to be effective in locking the cylinder...you may have to force the pins out to install new ones...or re-arrange the ones you have to get good results.
Try slamming the cylinder down on a bench (think catsup bottle...LOL) to jar them loose.
And after you have them out...you can replace them with new ones made from brass bar stock of the correct diameter (make sure to round the key ends for proper action).
