Feeler: Value of current RSR project?

I put it up on the Marketplace discussion but I think this forum gets a lot more traffic so figured I would ask here.

What is an incomplete RSR project worth?

Thanks for any input.

I never added it up but a quick guesstimate:
$10K for the 3.2SS engine and 915 tranny assembly
$5K for the roller
$4K for the bodywork including new steel flares
$1K for the hood
$2K for the front fenders and bumpers (used)
$3K for the PMO ITB's
$1.5K for the MSII and associated wiring and relays/sensors
$1K for all the ER bushings and monoballs
$1K for gas tank and coating
$1K for front RSR struts
Many more $K in sandblasting, painting, cleaning labor and extra parts like new lenses, RSR taillights, etc. etc. etc...

Add up everything you have spent on it and then divide by two. I've never known anyone to get more than half to two-thirds of their investment back in a restoration/special project unless it was an exceptionally rare or highly sought after automobile.

I agree with Wholberg. Add it all up and divide by 2 and hope you get close to that number.

You could also part it out, all though that could become a pain in the ass.

Agreed.... Once your in the 30k plus range, your now competing against complete running cars like the 993, 930 turbo, ect.

Appreciate the input guys, not going to part it out and fully understand I will lose money either way. Best case scenario is someone that has a vision similar to mine is out there and in a position to finish what I started. I would consider $20K but most likely am just better off sitting on her until i'm back in a position to finish. I know i'll be sorry if I let her go.

Maybe part out the trans and engine and chassis - 3 sales. What a fun project to finish. I would think you could get your money back on the engine and trans and then maybe $10K for the chassis. Pretty close to $20K for not too much effort.

Appreciate the input Eric, but even though it may be more profitable to part her out it isn't going to happen.

Gary,

I hope you keep her, I know it is hard to stop moving forward on a project, but it seems you have invested so much to build your vision, don't give up now, just pause, and come back to it when you can.

Set it aside until you are in a position to finish it (next winter). I am in the middle of my project right now, having repaired my wrecked racer last winter. I am really enjoying it, and I am really looking forward to the reassembly part! I might even post pics on here if it turns out ok...
It looks like you have the majority of the grunt work done - the remaining work might be fiddling around, but you will have the pride of knowing not only that you did it yourself, but that it was done right.

What seems high, what was spent on it? I don't do anything 1/2 way as far as quality goes and to build a top notch RSR replica it is not inexpensive. This car has, and will have, the best of everything (within reason). This was being built for me by me, expense didn't play a part during the build to this point. It will be a fantastic road car, or road and track car when she is done.

To be clear, I wanted opinions on worth and to see what interest this car would get in a forum dedicated to DIY'ers. I also understand most people here don't have the ability or finances to finish a project like this.

I suggest you sit on it. You won't get what it is worth if you sell it. Anybody that thinks $20k is high for what you have there needs to go price out a complete restoration, in today's dollars. I'll have that much in just repainting a non-rusty 914-6, with all of the usual little while-you-are-there stuff, and I did the disassembly and will be doing most of the reassembly, too. $20k doesn't go very far.
