Help with clutch issue '88 3.2 w/G50...

Strangest thing, this morning went out and had no clutch, pedal was to the floor, like the fluid had leaked out. Checked fluid level at reservoir was 3 mm above max line. Looked at pedal cluster for disconnection or snapped spring and clutch master cylinder. No visible issues. Then after I manually pull the clutch out, the pressure seems to have been fixed. Feeling a little uneasy about driving it, but the clutch worked when I backed out and into the garage. Checked Bentley manual and 101 projects (which is more geared to the non-fluid, spring adjustable clutches), and the issue would seem to be indicative of fluid/air in the hydraulic lines.

Drove it about 120 miles on Thurs., then about 20 miles on Fri., when it felt like there was not much clutch there--i.e., shifted fine but felt like it was only engaging on the last inch or so of clutch pedal depression, then this morning no clutch.

Anyone have similar issue ever, and know issue/remedy.

Any advise is much appreciated.

Had almost the identical experience 2 yrs ago on my '88. The pedal ultimately went completely dead and useless due to a sheared roll pin in the pedal assembly.

See item 39 on page 175 of the Porsche parts catalog, part # 900 309 002 00.

Identical problem as well couple years ago. It ended up being either the master or slave cylinder, I don't recall which one since I ended up having to replace both. I replaced whichever one seemed easier at the time but it ended up being the other one...now that I think about it it was the slave that actually failed. Do a partial drop to access it, it will end up being much easier in the long run. Don't do what I did which was waste hours trying to do it without the partial drop.

I have a heavy spring plate in my 87, has anyone seen either a master or slave
that provides more pressure with less pedal effort?

The more your clutch components wear out the heavier the effort becomes ...
I installed a new clutch assembly last year in my 89 and i thought there was something wrong because it was so much easier to engage !

Cheers !
