Another "what part is this?" thread

While replacing the rear deck shocks, the drivers side one fell down as I was catching the washers and hit the white part I marked with the arrow. The white plastic is just dried out and it popped off. I plugged it back in and it held fine, but I would like to replace it.

Does anyone know a part number and what it actually does?

That's the connector from the blinker fluid level sensor.

It's listed here as a kit. Check to see if it is 2 or 3 pole.

It is the sensor for engine temperature.

Agree with Rob T., that's the connector from the cylinder head temperature sensor located on the number 3 cylinder head. You mentioned it fell off. There should be a wire clip on it similar to the ones on the connectors (rpm and reference sensors) located just below it. The wire clip locks the connector in place preventing it from falling out as yours did. If the clip is there then I'm guessing that the plastic body of your connector is cracked or broken. Either way, that should be rectified as you don't want that falling out.

Correct, but wouldn't adding a couple of Spial fans help increase its ability to exchange heat?

Rob & EHS - I will go look for the clip lock. It popped back into place and felt tight, but I would just as well replace it and not have an issue. The link Timmy posted makes it look like the factory harness has to have the wires pulled out and then re-inserted in a new plastic connector?

PDACPA, that would be correct. The female connector to which the wire retaining clip attaches to comes from the wiring harness. You would have to obtain a connector as Timmy suggests to make the repair. Have not done this so I can't advise on degree of difficulty; but this an important connector. Personally, if the connectors were tight and the wire clip was doing its job, I might leave well enough alone. Search cylinder head temperature and/or CHT sensor here on this site and you will find dozens of threads pertaining to this topic. The male side of this connection is from the CHT sensor itself and that piece is available from our host and not terribly difficult to replace. @EHS911 I just checked it and I do not see the wire retaining clip, but it is on there very snug and tight. I am going to monitor it after some driving and see if tight. I will go read some threads to study up on it.

I added some speakers on my boat and the factory radio harness had one of those clear plastic housings and it was made to handle 4 speakers so two slots were empty. I bought the little metal connectors at radio shack and fed the wire through and crimped and pulled back tight and fit just like the factory ones. I think that looks to have a similar set up.

Either way you go, you need to be certain that that connector does not come apart. As you will note when you do a search, your car will either not run or run very poorly if that connection is broken and there is no signal coming from the CHT sensor. I would simply source another wire clip and be done with it. Without the clip locking the connectors together, they could easily come apart from vibration as you're driving the car.

Thanks. I agree on the clip connector. It felt dry and brittle, but the connection is tight and solid.

If that things falls off while you are driving, the car will immediately and ubruptly shut down. Ask me how I know. Use a zip tie or two if needed in the meantime!
