Removing fibreglass body kit from 1972 911T

I just bought this 1972 911T and am thinking of cutting off the body and restoring it to original 1. Am I crazy? 2. Is this doable ? 3.can some one tell if that is the original hood it is steel and the rest of the body is fibreglass ? The underneath is perfect and I mean really good so the car is far to good to break it has a 1976 Turbo engine that should run so I would sell that and try and source a more useable engine . 4. Am I crazy?

Not crazy.
I'd buy all the parts needed to put it back to original over time as I drove it...
Then carefully remove everything and sell the parts to others.
Looks to be a steel short hood.

I think you are crazy, yes. The T was the bottom of the 911 line. A pretty good bottom, and there are those who love them. But not the mighty S, or the tractible E. I just don't see the T as a collector's or museum item.

That look was the cat's meow back in the early '80s. Porsche even offered it as a special wish option at one time. Not everyone's cup of tea.

The '72's hood was the long hood (unless I have long and short mixed up). That hood looks like what was on a '74 through 89 911. As does the bumper/spoiler, though it is a one piece fiberglass repro of stock parts, right?

If you don't like the turbo, put in an SC motor. This car ought to turn a lot more heads than a T.

That looks like a lot of work. Many parts to buy, bodywork to do, hope there is no rust. Probably better off just buying an early 911 or 912 IMO.

Did they remove the oil fill at the right rear of the car?

Myself - I would go for it as long as the purchase price is cheap enough. You can unbolt all of the front end and sell it. Some one will buy it. Sell the turbo motor.

I think the prices of the 72's are going to escalate in a few years

Yes I think I'm in it right , and it does have the outside oil filler still, the car is so solid I think it's a shame to let it go. I wouldn't drive it across town as it looks , but a nice outlaw 72 would be great. What's the consensus on the value of the motor running but undocumented { the engine # is unmessed with} . This is a barn find and it needs a lot of work here are some more pics

They are not making any more 1972 models, T or E or S. Like you I would rather someone else drove that car, but its a lot of work to reboot back to stock. New front wings, new bonnet, new engine cover, bumpers, lights, rear wings, side light assemblies etc. (did I mention a 2.4 motor as well?) Could look better as an RS lookalike and fibreglass panels are readily available. Still beauty is in the eye of the beholder and that slope nose conversion was real popular in the 90's so maybe its a future collectable? Does it still have the original steel banana arm rear suspension setup with enormous wheel spacers to fill those rears tubs or is it a custom built job?
