Since you have other than stock wheels you may have other than stock spacer. The '78-80 930s used a 21mm spacer part#930.341.611.00 or 477.501.701. It might be worth your time to pull a wheel and investigate a bit more. If you want to keep you car stock and unmolested then by all means get the oe Fuchs, but 16" tire selection is limited(there are some great choices) compared to 17 or 18's

9" wheels will fit on a carrera, but 8" are probably a better "bet." I say this because a) the 8" and 9" wheels look almost identical from the outside (much, if not all of the extra width of the 9's is inside of the hub), and b) while tires that fit the 9" wheels are becoming increasingly scarce, the 8" fuchs can also take the same 225/50-16 tires as the 7's, which are still readily available.

Found more info on date codes
To tell your year date you should look on the back in between the lug holes. Here you can see a wheel dated 1169 (November of 69). |

The date stamp is a rubber stamp with ink that is easily obliterated.
The Fox head is "Fuchs" in German. The "AS1.62" is the alloy used. See below: A: We used 6082(USA), 3.2315(DIN), AlMgSi1(Type) or FUCHS Designation AS10.62, .62 indicates Temper Disignation. Thanks to all for the advise. A fellow Pelican contacted me and I purchased a set of 7s and 9's X 16 with tires. I believe I now have the correct size and date correct for the car. Will need to send them out to be painted black and like the polished look so will keep that for now and to the purest out there, I'm headed in the right direction but like the polished look for now. Went from 17s turbo twists that came with the car (see earlier pictures) to 16 inch Fuchs but have not felt any change as of yet.

88 Targa

I have a very nice set of 8x16 & 9x16's. The wheels are polished rims with polished petals and a black backround. The 9's have almost new set of 245/45/16's on them. I use them during the summer months. Please pm me if interested.
After going back to the 7's and 8's, there is no comparison to the 8's and 9's. I already miss them. I had no issues with rubbing and they bolt right on to my 88 Targa. |

Color Change and Polish
Another update on the wheels. Figured I would give it a shot myself and worse case I would follow the original plan and send them out to Harvey. I left them a message but did not hear back, no biggie. I started with degreasing, sos pads, and then sanding with wet/dry 220 and working my way up through the grit. I was able to remove most of what was done previously but stopped at the primer because the finish and workmanship on the wheels when I got them was professionally done and they were in great shape. 1/8th inch pinstripe tape from PepBoys worked well on all the edges and the paint did not bleed. Anything thicker had a hard time making it around the turns. Followed up with ½ inch blue painters tape, then larger width to cover the rest. A couple coats Wurth spray paint from our host worked great, not cheap but worth it, and looks like the original color and finish (WRTH-089099000U $14.95 Flexi-Trim Satin Black Paint, 15 oz). As for the curb rash and scratches, I again started at 220 wet/dry on the bad scratches and worked my way thru 300, 600, 1000, and then 1500. Thought about a file but did not want to get too aggressive being my first go at this. At the last Hershey PA swap meet I purchased some buffing wheels to fit my cordless drill and some polish and it worked like a champ. Time will tell but so far so good.
