What size Fuchs came on 1987 930
I purchased a 1987 930 cabriolet last summer and want to track down the correct wheels for the car. What size should I be looking for? With what markings ? Is there a specific offset I should look for? It's not a concourse car but I do want to get it closer to wheel type and size. It's has 17 inch turbo twist on it now and they rub the front wheel wells and the washer fluid tank.
First time posting on here and any help is greatly appreciated. |

1987 930 came with 7X16 front and 9X16 rear Fuchs.
Regarding markings to look for; there are many threads about id markings and such if you do a search for "real v fake fuchs" and the like (such as the following) - Real or fake - can you tell from a picture? |

WTB 16x7and 16x9
Thanks I'm working my way through them now. Are date codes specific to the model year stamped on the wheel?
The wheels on the car now had a clear coat on the chrome that was all cracked. I assume from heat and at least 12 years on the car. I end up taking lacquer thinner to them and took them back to the chrome and they look much better. While doing this and cleaning all the grime on the inside of the rear wheels, one had "Bent" written in paint marker. Explains the vibration problem I have. A bit of info the seller forgot to tell me. Ok so now I'm on the hunt for a set of 16x7 and 16x9 |

I've been told 8 on the front by a couple people so wanted to get some confirmation. Thought there might be some variation in wheel sizes for the 87 Turbo cab. Ordered a marketing slick from eBay and it says 7s but although posted on ebay for an 87 the documentation has no date on it. I will post what it says. I also bought my certificate of authenticity from Porsche hoping that data would be listed but was not much help. I have a burl-wood dash and that was not listed either, a bit disappointed in the certificate, but that's another story.

Lots of info on this subject in the 930 forum (such as the following post) -
tires and rims on 84 930 turbo The bottom line is that whoever advised you that your car came with 8" fronts, unless it was some special order, is mistaken . . . And nice looking car! Last edited by Ronnie's.930; 02-23-2013 at 09:45 PM.. |

The car came with 7 inch front wheels. Absolutely no question about it. Anybody (or any document) that tells you otherwise is just flat wrong.
Having said that, a really nice modification to the car would be to use 8 inch front wheels from a 944 turbo, with 225/50 tires. They look the same as the 7 inch wheels, more or less, but the car will drive better with these. Look for a 951 part number prefix on the wheels. JR |

Thanks
Thank for the help guys. I would love to find a correctly stamped set 7s and 9s but that may may a long search. Where do I find the date on the wheel stamp? I got some info off of other posts but did not see a post on dates or how to decode the date out of the stamps.i will post a couple pictures showing the real Fuchs markings.
As for upgrading to 8s on the front, I'm open to that while on the hunt for a date and model correct 7s. Do the 944 8s bolt right on as in same lug pattern and no spacers needed? Sorry just trying to learn about these wheels as I'm clearly a newbie to the 930 and Fuchs compatibility between models and years. |

Real, and made in the 42nd week of 1985. Which sounds like October.

While the factory never fitted 8s in the front, they fit without issues and look great. I did that to my '83. With 911 8s, not even 951 8s.

I was contacted by someone last night and he has a set of 7's and 9's date correct Fuchs with tires so we will see how that goes. Should get pictures soon. Red so they will need to be painted. We'll see... thanks again for the help eveyone! |

225/50-16 and 245/45-16, on 8's and 9's. If you run 7's, stick with 205/55-16 on the front. I'd suggest stock height. If you lower it, limit yourself to around 10-12mm lower and raise the steering rack an equal amount.
I think you'll find the difference in grip between the stock sizes front and rear to not be to your liking. I didn't like it. I also ran another 930 with 7's and 8's, with 205 and 225 tires. I likes that better than the 205 and 245 that came stock on the later cars, but not as much as the 225 and 245 on 8's and 9's. It's your car though, so make yourself happy. JR |
