External thermostat - what holds it in place?
I'm installing a fender mount oil cooler and external thermostat and am going through all the threads on -AN vs hard lines, etc.
Dumb question - What holds the Porsche external thermostat in place? I haven't seen this in any of the thread searches, pics, or catalogs. Did Porsche rely solely on the mounting of the hard lines to support the thermostat? For those of you you ran full flex lines, what did you do? Thanks for the help. |

Hard lines from engine clipped to inner fender and the lines clipped under the rocker hold it in place.

I am also curious about this. UncleBilly had an informative thread about using flex lines and non-standard oil coolers for his cars.
Budget Oil Cooling - Myth Dispelled He discussed using flex lines, which fittings were needed, but not any explanation of how to plumb into the external thermostat. He mentioned using flex lines to a cooler on the rear deck but I don't know how he connected to the engine. Maybe he will chime in?

If you are using a standard Porsche thermostat and the standard lines from it to the engine, it should be pretty secure to start with, due to the way the solid portion of the lines are mounted to the wheel well.
Then the flex lines running to the cooler can be secured near the t-stat helping to hold it up. When I pulled my cooler lines to fix the dents from a PO, the t-stat wasn't going anywhere with the engine lines connected to it.
