1985 Power Windows Problem and Fix

Over the past year I've had trouble with the power windows. They would just stop working. Then they would start back up again. The problem wasn't too bad for a long time- somehow they would always go back up before rain.

But last week went for a drive, they went down but didn't come back up. Pulled the switches- they were all new since I had replaced them one by one hoping to solve the problem. Cleaned the contacts, checked the fuse and all was OK.

Rain predicted so put a tarp over the car (embarrassing). But at least kept things dry.

Searched and searched knowing I must be missing something. Yup. Who would have guessed? There is a power window relay hiding behind the oil gauges (far left).
