MSD, Spark Boxes, sc to 3.2 with PMO's

Evening from the UK,
I have been reading your forum for a long time, there is some really great info on here and some impressive builds.
I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction.
I am tring to backdate my 1979 sc. The engine I got with the car is a 3.2.
I have installed 46 PMO's.
At the moment my wiring in most areas doesnt link to my engine.
As I understand it the 3.2 has a crank sensor(2 infact) and the sc has a distributor switch, both control the spark in their own way.
Partly from info I found here I understand I need some type of MSD or spark box to run the car.
Can anyone tell me which one I need and is mating the 3.2 to sc wiring possible with this kit?

easy, you can use the bosch CDI box in the picture or use a MSD unit, just ignore all the sensors from the old 3.2 unit and use the pickup that is in the dissy to power the CDI unit you want. looks like your 80% there, use the wiring diagram from the SC as a guide for the bosch unit

The SC distributor will not mate to the 3.2 crank and would spin the wrong way even if you changed the gear on the dist so it would mate. Your timing would retard as the rpms rose.

I am doing the same build as this. The solutions are converting to a stand alone crankfire ignition, modify your 3.2 dist into a functioning unit, a 2.7 points dist, or an aftermarket clockwise distributor.

MSD, Spark Boxes, sc to 3.2 with PMO's

Hi Guys
Thanks for the replies, much appreciated.
I think I have the 3.2 dizzy with no pick up?
I like the look of the MSD equipment but cant get my brain round where it will take an engine speed sensor, I have read here about it needing to attach to the RPM counter but I cant see mine will work anyway?
I have no sensors at all but could buy and refit the OEM crankshaft one?
It seems like the MSD 6AL is the most commonly used for this job.

The motronic sensors will not work to trigger a MSD unit.

You should give Steve Weiner a call at rennsport systems he's an active member here. He got me a JB Racing distributor for my 3.2. Recurved to your needs as well and plug and play with MSD.

sorry for the misinformation, i thought you had a dissy as the 3.2 has all the guts removed. yes you need a trigger of some kind to make it work. Nothing a little cash won't fix!

The quotes i got to convert my 3.2 dist to be an electronic trigger with a good advance curve were $$$$ so i made and curved my own.

You can use:

1) A recurved 3.0 930 Turbo dist

2) A recurved 2.7 911 dist

3) An aftermarket clockwise dist like i mentioned earlier and shown above.

Wanted to keep tis thread up to date....
I decided in the end to go with Steve Rennsports dizzy, even though it was more expensive its designed for the job with the correct curve, timing can be set and its tested.
Once it arrives Ill take some pictures of it fitted and let you know the results.
I appreciated all the input

Thanks for the contact info. I want to also look at finding a way to put a trigger inside the 3.2L distributor since a JB Racing distributor is $850! I have a 2.7L distributor so another option is to get a perlux ignitor for that.
