How to minimize Cabin noise

I just bought a 4x 6 foot roll of what I think is ccf from aircraft spruce.
(It was called super sound proof with adhesive - closed cell vinyl-nitride )

Prior to this I had just the pelican engine sound mat.

I had to drive with ear plugs. The noise in with the bare interior was painful and in hearing damage territory.

Before doing my full interior install I just draped the 1/4" closed cell vinyl-nitride over my parcel shelf and back seat area.

My head tells me the sound was cut in half, and now feels he same as driving with cheap foam earplugs (emphasis on the cheap ones).

If this is an early indication of what I can expect, I can't wait until I complete the job as described here.

Well, with it fitted and glued down it is quite a bit quieter than just the dynamat, so definitely worth it but better is subjective (it's still too loud)

I still have to do a third layer, this time using vinyl as per the sound deadening showdown site

Note: I do not have rear seats. (They block quite a bit of noise)

In preparation for a 10 day roadtrip in Norway I made a quick attempt following Nineball's instructions. The asphalt in my car had been removed by a PO so it was quite loud.

I used SilentCoat (similar to Dynamat) as the base, then a layer of cut up camping mats as a decoupler and then put the original “vinyl” deadening on top. I also made some effort to cover any holes and to make sure the transmission tunnel cover was well sealed.

For the hours and material cost I put in it (not much of each) I'm super happy with the result. It's not a quiet car by any measure but now we can at least hold a conversation at highway speeds and it's a lot less tiring to drive for longer stints.
