Can't find Alarm Control Unit

in my 1988 Carrera.
I have the wiring diagrams and they show it as being in the trunk on the LHS somewhere near the bonnet hinge but I can't see or feel anything in there other than the door lock control unit.
Do I need to remove the ventilation ducts to get to it?

From what I read, it is under the fresh air blower.

Thanks Ed. I can see some wires heading up into that space so I'll rip all that stuff out tomorrow and see what's behind there.

Actually, I am just about to install a 3.6 with MS3X so I want to remove the alarm control unit and bypass its functionality. I already have an after-market alarm/immobiliser/remote locking module installed.
The wiring diagram indicates that this can be done by jumping terminals 61-61 and 87a-15 as below.
Can anyone confirm that my interpretation of this is correct?
