Trick to threading a new heater cable thru the existing guides to flapper box?
Well the subject pretty much says it all. I have pretty decent access, having removed the plastic surround and unbolted the ebrake assembly. Removing the old cable (which had snapped near the flapper box) was a piece of cake. I can not get the new one past a snag that seems to be about 1/3 to 1/2 of the way down. I'm not sure what all the cable is passing thru on its way to the flapper box. 101 Projects recommends bending one end of the cable 180 degrees, which I was reluctant to do for fear of shortening the cable too much, so I tried it on the old cable... seems like it got a little further but still no joy. Any tips?

Try pulling the outer sheath off at the bulkhead ( under the car) then push the cable though and feed it into the the sheath.

I, too, am trying to thread a new cable. The passenger side is broken so flapper doesn't move. I received my new cable, which apparently works driver and passenger side vents. Looking, it appears both ends of the giant loop feeds through the tube near the emergency brake and SOMEHOW separates into TWO tubes which are located somewhere under the car. I removed the broken passenger side cable with ease. Do I now remove the WORKING driver side cable, then feed both ends of the loop through the big tube , hoping and praying that they somehow miraculously separate when they come to the two smaller tubes under the car???

Here's a tip. Buy new tubes (sheaths). They come without restrictions. And the wires do not magically separate. Each has it's own metal tube in the tunnel which passes through the rear
bulkhead. The sheath is pushed on to the end of the metal tube. Look for the tubes in the tunnel. You will find them. Actually pretty easy with new sheaths.

Thanks, Gary. Didn't know they were available and they will make the job simple.
Be safe. |

I used to use a old clutch cable along with a drill as a reamer to clean out the tubes.
