muffler bypass
I know somebody has done this and I just couldn't find it quick enough. I looked at the Fabspeed muffler bypass pipe for a 3.2 Carrera, it looks like you can install it without removing the catalytic converter....I assume the result will be a louder exhaust, less restrictive exhaust? performance gain?? no change in emissions???
Any expert opinion/facts on this on the forum? Can I keep the catalytic converter, keep emissions to normal, but gain sound and performance with the muffler bypass? If yes, how much? did anybody run a dyno with a 3.2 Carrera or SC? Thanks!

I have a muffler bypass. You can keep your cat (it bolts right to it, so you have to unless you replace your cat), which will keep you emissions legal. It is significantly louder. Unless you combine it with other parts and a chip, such at Steve Wong, then you will see no hp increase. Most people think it's too loud after awhile. I like it, but I'm in the process of trying to tone it down a little.

I can't speak for this system specifically, but you DO realize that you will be completely eliminating the muffler, right? I put a 12" glasspack on my SC in place of the cat, and even that was unbearably loud, and I put it back to stock two days later. I think the fabspeed muffler bypass is intended to be bolted on for track use and a muffler bolted on for the street. Depending on your local exhaust-noise-level laws, you'd probably be illegal to drive that setup on the street. The few state laws with which I am familiar require some kind of muffler to be legal, this would not be IMHO. Basically, it's just a tailpipe.
Just my $.02, hope it helps!

It was on my car when I looked at, prior to purchase. I actually made fun of the owners kid for wanting it. Made the deal, and when I came to pick the car up, the OEM muffler was in place. Car sounded like a super root tiller with the bypass, worst mod ever!

Our pre-muffler is used with a tailpipe (muffler bypass) on Carrera track cars. Pretty loud.
