It looks European for sure. And it two cars down from a Beetle. My guess is more than likely a VW conversion.

I'm curious too

Close ,but no cigar,It's a type 4- 914 engine with an aftermarket Porsche style cooling system.Pretty slick looking,eh!
I'm doing the same thing to my 912.

Yes, it is a VW Type3 Notchback.

There are a few possibilities on what this engine can be. If this is a European car the Type4 engine conversion is very popular with the 911 style fan shrouding, there is a great kit made in Australia for this. This could be a standard Type1 engine with a fiberglass shroud and 911 fan combo, there are a few suppliers of this conversion. And then again it could be a real 911 motor, granted this requires some serious work to mate up (read $$$).

Too bad they bastardized this car, they are pretty rare and an awesome look when done right.

Steve F, hopefully you got the Australian kit from Sharp Enterprises. They are the only kit I am aware of that can use the stock location oil cooler. The FAT kit only allows an external cooler which would be okay if you are running a RSR style front cooler. I think Oregon Performance makes a kit, but I am not familiar with how it uses the oil cooler, but I think it would need relocation somehow.

If you need to relocate a type4 oil cooler for any reason (or add two) Audi made a remote system for this on the 4000 or 5000 series cars that uses the same VW cooler, just bolt in the SS braided hose and go. I think in the audis this was an oil cooler for the Turbo cars??? These are like $10-15 at a Audi dismantler. Check the www.type2.com "library" section for details and PNs.

Cool

Adrian,
Yes, the Sharpbuilt is by far the most attractive and functional kit out there, and the oil cooler arrangement I like very much. The "Fat" system is interesting, but too tall of a shroud for a SWB 912 for my comfort, let alone a remote oil cooler which is OK,but not the top of my list, and I hear Bernie Bergman is making 1 for the T4(already has 1 for the T1).I have the alt/fan/pully together,no ring or strap yet(anybody? )and (don't laugh)
I'm considering making my own shroud(my labor is free)

Yep, Type 3 notch.
Looks like it's Aus. or NZ looking at the plates and RHD - not where UK Types 3s would have their number plate.
