Help identifying these wires?

So I have this 1987 hybrid Carrera (fancy body with lotsa upgrades b/c PO had 700+hp turbo, BUT now with a stock 3.2).

As is usual with used cars, I'm finding out a lot that, of course, was previously not disclosed (been there?).

The latest are several disconnected connectors. It's so much easier to ask Porsche experts than to try to trace this down with wiring diagram and multimeter, that I'd like to see if any Pelicaners can help with immediate identification.

I might note that the car drives fine, so these disconnected connectors must not be very critical to its operation.

WIRES:
1) In the front trunk, in the area of the fuse box, there are 2 disconnected large yellow wires (maybe 12ga), which are associated with a loose relay (not attached to the fuse box). The relay has a red wire and a white wire leading to the fuse box. -- see below pics. (The car has an anti-theft device, which I do not know how to operate -- or maybe it is deactivated?)




2) Also in the front trunk, up by the master cylinder, are FOUR disconnected connectors (see below pics - yellow, green, and red circles).
Two are 15 or 16 pin connectors, and obviously mate with each other (YELLOW circles and arrows).

Another one is a two-pin female connector (circled in GREEN) with no nearby male mate lying around. It looks like the type of connector used with lighting.

The last one (RED circles and arrows) is a three-pin female connector, with no nearby male connector.






Does anyone have a suggestion what these connectors are for, and whether I should be concerned?

does the car run?

the red connector doesn't look factory, looks like aftermarket alarm, relay looks like someone hacked it in place, left power and ground, but if the other wires aren't there, it doesn't do anything anymore.

the yellow multi-pin connectors are aftermarket and abandoned, probably the alarm main-module used to plug in there.....best bet it to trace all the wires back to where they go....is there an LED (alarm armed light) in the console or on the dash? some wires typically tap into the door/interior light at the switch or elsewhere....often there is a glass-break sensor, motion or shock sensor, and then relays to flash the lights, relays to disable the starter motor or fuel pump

Yes the car runs fine (just not as quick as it's going to be when I boost it).
Yes there is an LED.
Worries are based on several past Pelican posts, where removal of the anti-theft devices resulted in catastrophes. In fact, I can recall reading about one who just put it back in, because he was never able to figure out all the secret alarm wiring.

Will do the wiring traces.

SONNETT!! It's been years since I saw one or even heard the name. V4, wasn't it? I think the other basic Saabs were 3 cyl, weren't they? Were they air cooled?

none air cooled, they made 258 that had the classic saab 2 stroke, 3 cal, 'oil injected' motor, tuned as far as they could, mid 60-BHP, after that they were all V4, from ford of germany (cologne) same motor used in a lot of industrial/agricultural applications, again 60-70 BHP, but pretty stout, compared to the fragile 2 strokes....owned a bunch of sonetts, 2 were two-strokes


back to your troubles, if you are careful about tracing all the wires, you can't get into trouble.....if there is a starter or fuel pump interrupt, you will see this pretty obviously, let's say a blue wire and a green wire from the alarm harness interrupting the yellow starter motor wire or a fuel pump wire....possibly with a relay for added safety

those multi-pin connectors don't appear to mate, they appear to both be female.

you can be vigilant, try to start the car after every wire or two gets snipped....I think you will find most are just laying loose

Right you are in ref to those two multi-prong connectors. Both male ends. Good eyes. I did not even think to try themj out -- just assumed they interconnected w/each other.

It's all old alarm stuff pretty much. The flat multi pin connectors are most likely an old Clifford alarm. Trace the large yellow, it probably connects to a large 12ga wire and connector up near the drivers side hood strut, this is a main power wire that would be used for a starter cut out. Reconnect the original. The wires in the upper red circle, lower green are factory wires for "extensive cleaning" concentrated w/s washer, this was an option. The other, upper green, lower red circle???? And the fuse and relay, old alarm.
