mystery wire?
Been having a idle issue with my 81 911sc. Idle fluxuates randomly between 1100and 1600rpm. Was looking around for a vacuum leak and found this ground lug at the back of the engine that was disconnected and appeared to be making intermittent contact with the engine block. When I ground the lug, the engine idle drops from 1600 to 1100rpm and is stable. What is this ground connected to? (see pic below)
Thanks, Mark ![]() ![]()

There is a threaded ground post/stud on the left bulkhead near (behind) the fuel filter and accumulator, you have to "feel" for it or use a mirror. Will the ground (brown wire) harness reach that?

looks like a ground wire harness, any strange or non working stuff on the car? might be the problem with the idle

It's definitely the cause of the idle and I did find a lug on the engine to connect it. I was wondering what module the ground is for(maybe the computer?) I comes from the bulkhead connector right behind it to the right of the shock tower.

if you cant find it, on the forward of the left inner fender, by the fuel filter, you can try a bolt on the engine itself for now.

Looks like the ground for the engine sensors. Mine is connected to the alternator.
