While I am in there...
Vermin have forced the dropping of the motor in my original 1973.5 911T. I would like to tap the collective wisdom for any and all suggestions for improvements and updates for what will remain a street driven car. Tensioners, pop-off valve, etc. have been updated over the years, so I am looking for recommendations that might improve performance (understanding the limitations of this motor), reliability, durability, comfort (also understanding this may be mutually exclusive of the aforementioned) and the like. In essence, if you dropped the motor on this vehicle, what would you address and what particular products would you choose with respect to plugs, wires, mounts...?

Replace the rubber intake manifold boots/gaskets and set the cam timing to "spec" for a 73.5 CIS car.
If it is leaking oil..well, you know what to do. |

Wide open question that leaves a lot to the imagination. Are you interested in keeping it mainly original? How much mileage on the engine? Any budget constraints? Do you just want suggestions on minor engine work, or will you be tearing it down. I have read that the 2.7S cams will boost performance a bit. I would recommend that you inspect the distributor for worn bushings and fiber washers, make sure the phenolic sheet, springs and weights are moving properly. What shape are the wiring harnesses in. Besides building nests, Vermin love to chew on wiring. Fuel lines should inspected and replaced if needed.
Are you also interested in the chassis and suspension? Elephant rubber bushings are great for the street. What struts are on the car now, Boge, Bilstsein, or Koni? The list can go on forever. Mine will be done in a couple of years. It was a daily driver, and in the Northeast winter can cause issues.

Thanks for the responses. No plans to tear it down. 43k and change on the motor. I plan to keep an original look, but since it is only "original" once that ship has sailed through the GI tract of many a mouse. The parts I would look to replace can always be taken back to OEM if I decide to go that route in the future. For now, I would like to make it enjoyable and serviceable with "better" or "improved" parts than what are offered in 1973.
To be clear, I am not doing the work myself. The initial intent was to get the car road-worthy. Now, the extent of damage (i.e. wiring, hoses, and shear volume of vermin feces and nesting material) has dictated the motor be dropped and I would like to use the opportunity to its fullest. No doubt most of the aforementioned components will need to be replaced. Therefor, I would like opinions on what to use as replacement parts and what other items, although not needing replacement, might be worthwhile to update/improve upon while the motor is out.
