following your insturctions for engine removal for my 1980 sc, got everything done but two parts 1. the large arm on clutch will not come off, it seems the whole shaft wants to pull out bottom of trany, any help? 2. i'm not removing trany so does reverse light conection have to come apart, this wire is a real pain to get to, any help?

Not sure I follow what you are describing when referring to the clutch arm. Any chance you can share a photo?


You have to disconnect the reverse light switch when removing the engine and transmission together.

The clutch arm I think you're referring to is held in place by a snap ring. Remove that and the whole piece drops straight down.

removing the clutch cable and the 2 springs is all you need, the arm just moves off the throw out bearing as the engine separates from the transmission.

Clutch arm......

The first time I pulled the engine/tranny out of my SC, both of the clutch arms were seized on the shaft. I wound up using a modified hub puller to get them off. While they were off, I cleaned up the shaft and made sure it was lubed when I put it all back together. I just pulled the engine/tranny out again last week and had no problems getting them off. the reverse light switch does not have to come off if you are dropping the whole drivetrain.

Check the large clutch release lever....some years used a roll pin to hold it on.
