Everyone restores Fuchs, What about my SuperCups?
My Kinesis SuperCups are super sweet but it looks like the PO of my car never, ever, ever washed them. Ever.
SO, I washed them with dish soap. Gads, was that bad? Well, it helped. But the inner barrels aren't even close to clean. They aren't black anymore but they are a long way from silver, more kinda permanent brown if you want to know. Silly me, I want them CLEAN. What's next in the arms race?

Well, that looks like good stuff.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/cleaning-detailing-polishing/550748-best-cleaner-bar-none.html I can't see where it is available south of the border here in the motherland. I also wonder about it on my fancy pants wheel surfaces.

I restore 3 piece wheels every day. I usually soak with simple green and then use the corse steel wool until I start seeing bare aluminum. It is tough to get the inner rims looking better without a great deal of work. Sometimes I even use 100 grit sandpaper to break down the grime and get to bare metal. When I get to bare metal I usually prime/sand/prime/sand and finally paint the inner rims. What do the faces look like? Are they 17" or 18" wheels? Are they straight/round? jdorociak@gmail.com jim

I've heard of people leaving the Simple Green on for too long and wishing they had spent the day doing something a bit less adventurous like watching golf. What kind of soak time are you comfortable with?

Lots of dirt in the water, you'd think I had made progress but check the wheel, still lots on the rim.

The centers clean up much easier for some reason.
Tooth brush and sponge did a lot on the back of the wheel center. Scotchbrite pad, elbow grease, and nylon scrub brush had limited effect on the barrel though.

Answering your question:
Fronts/faces are not too bad. They need help but they have cleaned up reasonably. So who cares about the inner barrels/ backs, eh?

When I am doing them I disassemble the wheels, and sand/polish the outer rims, paint the centers, and then sand/primer/paint the inner rims. jim [email]jdorociak@gmail.com

I've cleaned many wheels, best thing is lacquer thinner to get the brake dust and dirt off, then use other products.

I've had good luck removing nasty/stubborn brake dust/debris with denatured alcohol.
