Help, my 3.2 is running poorly
My 911 has been sitting around for several months and now it is running and idling like crap. When I started it up today, it stayed at 1k and when I hit the gas, it wanted to die. Also, the car is spewing black smoke when I rev. Do I have oil I need to burn up before it starts acting right?

Jon,
How was it running before you put it in "hibernation"? I'd think it would run roughly after sitting for that long. Did you do anything to prepare it prior to letting it sit idle for so long?

My engine was running great. I did have to bang on the fuel pump to get it going after sitting. The engine has ~20 miles on it after a complete rebuild. The car was started every few weeks while I did body work. I had it painted and it sat at the paint shop unstarted for 6 weeks.

Okay, that's it...
I'm taking my 3.2 out for a good drive right after I write this. Been sitting in the garage for 2 weeks now. Spoiled me I guess...starts right up and runs fine after warmup despite minimal driving. It's those damned oil leaks I haven't taken care of that deter me from driving more. Good luck, kretzj. Hopefully, with some driving, things will improve. Are the injectors new? No vacuum leaks, like is the oil cap on snugly? Smoke- not overfilled with oil are you? |
