I have been through the rear hieght adjustment, so maybe I can help you with that, seeing that you guided me through the conversion.
I might take you up on the that. I bought the angle finder. My problem is, no one here can align the rear end. So I'll need to train them. Plus, corner balance what's that ?
So do I splurge and buy my own scales ? Will I ever use them again ?

How's the 914 block ??
Good news. The block that Ron Meier from the 914 BBS had sitting around, checked out. It's sitting at Ollies in the bay area. Real nice folks.

Thanks for the reminder. All this talk about Euro height settings. That’s what you use for a base, after you weighted the drivers seat. Then balance her up ??

Body weight

So Cary: I would assume with the body additions your car is actually lighter, right? How much weight savings came with the fiberglass bumpers? The flares are probably neglible, correct? Another question, also, is the size of your wheels -- what are they? If those are 15x8s in the rear, how much heavier are they than 15x7s? Do you or anyone else know that?

Thanks.

BTW: is/did your car start out as a '74?

Thanks again.

dd74.......the car started as a 77 Carrera 3.0. So the flares are regular SC steel body panels. Can't tell you the exact reduction on the bumpers. But the factory bumpers and hardware are pretty damn heavy.

Wheels 16 * 7 & 8's. The 74 and my 77 would have come with 15's. But the tire selection on 15's is getting limited, so I went with 16's. But the car would sit lower with 15's.

It wasn't my intent to build an exact replica. I just liked look of the 3.0 RS in Peter Morgans book. So off I went. That's why I left the Carrera 3.0 script on the rear deck lid. You could have special ordered a 77 Carrrera with blue wheels and script.

Cary,

Did you remove the bumper shocks or tubes? If so, how did you attach the bumpers?

Everything is gone. Used 3 M6 bolts on each side attaching the bumper to the fender. Then used the brackets that Hank from GT-Racing sends with it. You have to drill different holes.

Cary, Very nice! the Carrera 3.0RS was always my most favorite also, Now you've got me thinking about a project hmmm.....

Love white cars !!

the weight savigs when I switched to f/g bumpers was ~20# frt and ~20lbs rear. But I didn't ditch the bumper shocks, they are now used on nerf bars under the f/g. Only the exterior pieces were replaced.

What I was trying to say is.... yea get your ride height to where you like it, then corner balance.

But dont be to upset if you get cant get the same heights at the wheel arches after the corner balance. Each car is a unique entity, so if you see 1/4 or 1/2 in dif in fender hieghts but the car balances well dont sweat it

Congratulations Cary!

Now it's time to celebrate! Head on over to the Bitteroot and cast a few dry flies for me. After that, drive up to Missoula to have a blackened prime rib sandwich at the Depot. (Man, I miss Montana!)

Cary, the car looks fantastic. I wouldn't change a thing. Well, maybe I'd have a fly rod rack attached to the roof.

Bill, I was going to try and keep the front support like you suggested. But where Hank puts the f/g support flange inside the bumper. I just couldn't get it to line up. So I just used his.

Did I read your info right ? Your just running the big B & B front cooler on your 3.6 ? That's what I'm planning. But I think I'll put in the RSR front panel this winter. I couldn't really tell from the TRE picture. But it creates a extra space for the cooling air to pass thru ? Then slide underneath ?

Moses, we went to Shadows Keep instead. 20th. Anniversary.
She's put up with me for a long time.
I have 4pc. Fly Rods for the little car.

As I remember it, I am using the smallest B&B (it is 5 1/2 X 2 1/4 X 20). I could be wrong but that's what I remember. It fits just about perfectly in the Ruf bumper cap, I used the angled I/O ports but I think that the straight I/O like Rick K used are better. Heres a link to Rick Katigbak's oil cooler install Rick did modify his front wall, that's a given with the pre 74 installs. the 74 up have a bit more room. here's a link to mine. Bill Verburgs 3.6 transplant

I have no problems with oil temps even with just the 1 cooler, it's almost always right at the opening temp of the thermostat. But if you want the TRE panel would be a nice touch, not necessary but nice.

Ready for alignment...........

Finished lowering her today.

23 3/4 rear. 24 1/4 front. Weighted for driver. Didn't drag on my gravel driveway. And didn't rub on a spirited up and down hill run. And an 100 MPH to 0 stop.

Looks very cool! It must be satisfying to see you have achieved your goal (based on the pic you "carried around" for inspiration).

Marc, probably only 3. One here in Montana and a couple in Portland every year. I'm getting hooked on A-X. I can go almost every weekend if I want. Like right now in Missoula. Two day event this Labor Day weekend. Another on the 22nd. Then the final one, Oct. 5th.

Hopefully next year, a couple trips to Bremerton. To play with Randy W. and guys from Seattle. Then I'm thinking of going to Topeka for the Nationals next fall. Seat time and observation.
As for too nice, not really. This thing is on its fourth paint job. With out being stripped. So I'm only looking for a 4-5 year life span on the paint. Then I'll bare metal strip the car. Take out the sunroof panel ( roof) and put in the fiberglass replacement that GT-Racing makes. Which will then mean Lexan windows..........

Randy, hopefully I can get over for the Evolution school next year. Ken Stolz ( silver Subaru RS 2.5 ) from Missoula went. Sounded like it was a great expirence.

But for now, it's time to drive. I want to close up another 3-4 seconds on the fastest time of day, with expirence. Which is usually the other car in my class, FP. Full race early 240z. Monster motor. And he's been doing this for 15 plus years.
After the gap is closed. Then I'll switch to R-compound tires.

Thanks for all the compliments.

I'm starting to think that I may need to re-paint my car... Lot of these around these days...

I love the white, though those constant tire marks from the track just act like neon-lights on the finish...

My car...
