Home brew alternative to hard line support "padding"

The hard lines along the rocker panels are held by three clips and there is padding of some sort between the clips and the brass line. I had the lines out to get at a stubborn line on the thermostat and these things just crumbled. There are a total of 8 of them and they are ~$10 each. Has anyone come up with an alternative material? $80 seems a bit much. Was thinking of getting a couple feet of thin walled heater hose from my FLAPs as one alternative.

Anyone have any other ideas?

No, too soft. Inner tube will work just fine. A piece from a truck inner tube would even be better.

$10 ea,....... HA! What we spend on our wonderful cars.

I ended up getting 2' of 3/4" id heater hose from a FLAPS for $1.10. Suspect it will outlive the car. Better padding than OEM version as well.

Of course I'll never win a concours now

I was able to get several OEM ones on ebay for a reasonable price (around $10 for 8 of them). you can find insulated cable clamps at lowes cheap and the rubber is pretty much the same.

I bought about a foot of black rubber hose for under $2.00 from Home Depot, enough for 8 pieces.
