Before I get too much further into this RSR replica resto I'm on...I may need help on tires. I found a pair of 9x15" genuine Fuchs for the front and the 11x15" rims may turn up somewhere, but I have done the math on the tire dimensions relative to the rims and haven't seen any tires near the sizes I think these rims will accomodate on any tire site (in 15" fittings).
What size tires did the original RSR's have and does anyone know a source for for tires in those dimensions. I am aware Hoosier makes wide slicks for 15" rims, but I hadn't planned on slicks. I was at the Ford GT-40 reunion at Watkins Glen several years ago and watched one of the team's crew members cut a tread pattern in a set of Goodyear slicks using a hot iron with a pointed tip on it...hadn't planned on that either, but it may come to whatever it takes... Thanks, Jack McAllister |

Jack,
The '73 RSR 2.8 that Road & Track tested had Dunlop rain tires in 230/600-15 and 260/600-15. Pretty close to the 225/50-15s and 285/40-15s that I have. The more commonly available 345/35-15 would work, too, on 11" rears. ------------------ Warren Hall 1973 911S Targa 1992 Dodge Dakota 5.2 4X4 parts hauler |

Max rubber may be 255/45-15 front, 345/35-15 rear. This is what I run, you might get away with 285 on the front if the car is not lowered and the fender lips are shaved.
Pirelli still makes a 225/50-15 and 345/35-15. Yokohama makes a 225/50, 255/45, 285/40, and 345/35-15. TireRack sells them all. |

Hello
Hey you guys ever tried to drive a slight curve with 285 on front ? The 225 are very close to the limit. What is the reson to have 285īs on front ? How will you heat them up or use them ? Front tires are only pointers and to much rubber will force understeer untill the rear comes loose. Donīt like to drive that way. 285 is the correct size for the rear. This setup is still driftable and has enough rubber for a light car. Remeber with a race setup you only use 20% from the max. contact surface while driving straight. Those are the inner 5" from the tire doesnīt matter if you have a 225 or a 455 on the rim. 285īs where made by Yokohama as AVS 50i. They are much better then the Pirellis ( P7 ) but not as good as the 008 / 008R. They are only made once a year for preordering costumers. Last german price I remember was 300$ each. Avon is said to have as race sliks. |
