Msd blaster coil and CIS 8 ohm resistor?
Just wondering if anyone knows if the 8 ohm resistor is necessary for CIS/CDI? I found the advice on using the specific MSD Blaster coil I chose, but no mention of the note in the packaging about the resistor.
I hooked it up without it and seems to be fine. In fact it starts quicker and back fires less. I run early ss heat exchangers, it's a 78 sc, minimal muffler etc. Thanks in advance, Frank |

The Blaster II works without any resistor just fine on my '78. Never saw/noticed anything about a resistor when I installed it?

It sounds like you are not using an MSD ignition system... but the coil does put out more energy than the OEM coil.
Great read. Ignition Rotor Meltdown Most of us on here have already read up on these issues and know that if you go with the MSD ignition route you need a heavier plug wire than what came OEM. You also need the Napa rotor. If you make those changes, with the complete MSD ignition system (e.g. 6A and blaster coil), you don't need the resistor. You also need to gap your spark plugs to nearly .050 (as mentioned here: Pelican Technical Article: Installing the MSD Electronic Ignition System). I would be inclined to follow these rules... even with just the MSD coil.

Thanks guys I will change the rotor just to be safe, if I fry the plugs I will mess with the gap.
Tanks again. |
