Thumbs down squeaking irritating noise from dashboard

When ridingf my '86 Targa and the road is not smooth and flat, I get an irritating high pitch noise of plastic parts that move against each other. It comes from the dashboard on the passenger side. I've checked but the dashboard is firmy fixed and no screws are loose.

Any suggestions ?

I just went through this.....

I had a squeaking noise that starting to drive me nuts! I isolated it to somewhere behind the dashboard, or so I thought. I took my hand sander, put a rag on it, and put it on the dash to vibrate it. I put in in sevaral places on and under the dash, but could not get the noise to appear.

To make a long story short, it turns out that the squeaking noise was coming from the hood latch at the nose of the car. Don't ask me how I found it, but it's goes to show that the noise may not be where you think it is!!!

Sounds silly, but you also may ask your passenger to stick his fingers in the defroster vents, see if the sound stops. My car has the sound on the driver's side...but damned if I've figured out how to make it quit. (Haven't had the winshield removed, so dash could be removed. Doesn't bother me enough to go through that process.)

I have a similar noise on my 87. I think mine is coming from the thin plastic strip that goes across the dash just at the base of the window. I cranked on the screws and it seems to stop the noise. It comes back eventually tho. I think I may take it off and put some tape behind it so it's not a plastic to plastic installation.
Also, after I stiffened up my suspension, it really brought out the squeaks.

My radio's plastic edges were rubbing in the din chassis. Hit it with some silicone spray and it was gone

Mine was where the dash ends and the top of the door trim meets it - silicon spray did the trick.

85 carrera targa- (2) "squeaking" noises both seemed to come from the dash on the passenger side. (1) was the evaporator fan motor for the a/c-it only squeaked when the a/c was on and I would hit a bump or corner hard. (2) was actually the targa top-one of the 4 clips on the rear that holds the folding bar was rubbing on the bar. Hope that helps.

I finally found where the noise came from.
I followed SeaDweller's advice and investigate in the hood's direction.

I found out that the noise came from the top corner of the hood which was somewhere almost in contact with the car body (despite the joint), near the windshield. I put some thick tape on the hood's border to prevent the friction.

I think this comes as a consequence to an accident the car car had a few years ago, where the right front of the car was hit, and there was work done on the body.

My 87's passenger-side squeak comes from the band around the backside of the glove compartment body.

My mystery: a clacking sound above the passenger's head, a bit behind the dome light.

I thought I had a behind the dashboard rattle until I figured out it was the driver's side wooden kick panel. Turns out I did'nt tight the nut/washer enough.

My evaporator motor also makes some sort of awful bearing noise intermittently at lower speeds. I have'nt yet figured out how to get into the motor cover.

Mine squeaks right around the central A/C vents. I give it a good shutou and it stops--until I hit a good-sized bump in the road, then it starts up again. ARRGH!
