Wevo Shifter Questions
About to pull the trigger on a Wevo Shifter + PSJ for my 915 transmission and had a few questions:
1. Tall or regular knob? I'm tempted to go with tall, but would like to hear feedback from people who have tried both. I'm not bothered about having a longer throw than the regular knob. 2. Does the shifter come with the bushing that the shifter rod slides through or do I need to purchase that separately? Like the one pictured here: ![]() 3. I believe I have original 37 year-old engine and tranny mounts (1976 911 coupe), so would like to swap those out at the same time. For a mostly street car (with occasional track use), would the "sport mounts" sold by Pelican suffice? The Wevo mounts look great, but I can't justify the price differential on mounts. The sport mounts are branded as "German" and are pictured here: ![]() Thanks! |

1. I have the standard length shifter, so I can't comment on your question. I've read the extension is nice, but I never drive my car wishing the shifter was more at hand.
2. The bushings come with the shifter. 3. I bought the WEVO mounts so I can't answer that question. If you can wait, I'd save and get the WEVO mounts also. Anything WEVO makes is worth every penny they ask. I've wrestled with sub-par aftermarket parts too much in my life that it's great to have access to such fine parts. |

for street use get the factory sport mounts. The Wevo will transmit more vibration. Length of the shifter is really a personal preference, do you use your seat way back, is it hard to reach?

What targa said, I have the "other" shifter, started out with the long shift rod, but since I like my seat pretty straight up, I switched to the shorter one. I also had the welt ss and that was super short, but I liked it. Also, I had the sport mounts, loved them, went to wevo's, like them, but just a little to harsh for a street car. But I'm getting older now. If you get wevo's, get the softer pillows if street driven.
To each his own.

that would be the Stripper Knob. just kidding.
I have the standard billet shifter, and knob in black. I think it looks better on a street car, and to be honest the throw is perfect. |

It puts the knob a lot closer to the wheel, and lets me stretch my legs out a bit without having to extend my arms out so far.
Probably not a solution for short guys.

I like the tall myself. As was stated earlier, personal preference.

Thanks all - I think I will go with the tall knob and the "German" sport mounts on engine and tranny. Does anyone know if the sport mounts include the metal housings, or do you have to drive out your perished rubber and reuse the original housings?

+1 on tall knob.
Mounts should come with the metal, just unbolt and bolt new ones on. I have factory sport mounts for the transmission and Wevos for the engine mounts.

I switched from the standard to the tall and I like the tall, but I am 6'4".
I have the short and will sell it to you cheap and you can try both! FWIW, if your tranny is not in really good shape the wevo wont help, in fact it tightens everything up so much it might make it worse. I had solid mounts on the engine and sport mounts on the trans in a 73 with a stock 3.0 motor and I loved it. I have Rebel mounts on the trans and solids on the engine on my 84 and it gets some weird vibrations - I think the 3.0s are smoother than the 3.2s? As an option you might try the rebel racing rubber mounts - they are harder than the sports but softer than the wevo I think? The Wevo mounts are the best I am sure but out of my budget.

Here's a comparison between a 3" lever extension on a factory shift lever...... ![]() .... and a 5" lever extension on a Weltmeister short shift lever: ![]() About the same. Brings the knob closer to the steering wheel. Reduces the reach to the furthermost gears. A longer lever increases the throws somewhat, but it makes up for it in smoother shifts between gears, esp. with the stubby WM short shifter. My personal ride uses a 3" extension on a factory short shifter. As in all things ergonomic, YMMV. Sherwood |
