Tach issue on a 1986 Carrera

I have a 1986 Carrera with 141k miles. The tach was working just fine. I just took the odometer out and had it the trip meter repaired and put it back in. Now, the when you turn power to the car (without starting it), the tach needle jumps to 2k rpm. Sometimes it doesn't jump. Either way, once you start the engine, the tach jumps to 2k rpm. It works fine past that and it idles normal. The needle just stays at 2k rpm at idle...I pulled the tach and the wires looked fine and all plugged in.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Paul

Any chance you transposed the wires on the speedo?

Also, does the speedo work?

pm me as needed.

Thanks Gerry,

I don't think so. I triple checked the wires and they are fine. Also, the speedo works properly.

It is a strange mystery...

Unfortunately, yes, it still does.

Here is the back of the tach before unplugging any wires...

Does anything look out of place?
