993 windshield

Can a 993 windshield be used on a 87 carrera?

Would you need a special rubber seal?

Forum search function is your friend.........

Which Windshield 993 or stock 89??

Bottom line is 993 glass requires 993 seals (note that's plural- two seals) and urethane glue to bond it in place.

Seals are part number

993.541.925.00 for the outer and 993.541.435.01 for the inner.

Can you show us pictures? I am wanting to do this next year as both front and rear glass on my car have pitting and small cracks. I like the clean, flush style of the later glass than with the trim on our older brethren.

Just had knee surgery yesterday, so as soon as I get a little more mobile I'll get some pics up

993 windshield and seal. more expensive but you will be happy. No more wind noise from too many edges here and there. No more metal trim poping up. It looks much cleaner/smoother. I like it even better than the 964/965 seal.
Ruby from Axiom did mine. He's in LA, and is a Pelican.

What about the other way around will a 1985 to 1989 front wind screen fit a 1996 993? Do I need to change the seals on the 993?
Cheers

How far back can you go with this "upgrade"? I just replaced my windshield in my 77 (thank you hagerty) with a 78-89 (wrong review mirror mount for my 77 mirror so I ordered a 78-89 from our host ). Eliminating the wind noise sounds like a good idea.
Just curious.....

I'd be interested in the general install procedure. Given that there's sealant involved in addition to the two piece seal arrangement, i'd like to get an idea what's the order of operations for putting it all together.

Ditto, I have read the other threads and need to replace my windshield (on my admittedly heavily modified '75) and really like the 993 alternative.

I guess I would like to hear confirmation from pre-1983 owners (we have one on 1980) that this will fit and work well. I have bought the seals already....just waiting to make the plunge on the glass.

Rudy's a good guy very knowledgeable about what will work with what.. and Axiom has turned out some pretty wild rides.

Hey Rudy.. Happy New Year!

Hey Paul: Happy New Year !
We do that windshield upgrade to almost every car we do, it's not that difficult, it's the glued glass issue that some fear.

The back glass is a little trickier, the glass is a little smaller and you will be able to see the defroster wires from the inside.

This isn't 100% relevant to 993 screens, but may be useful info on the subject of windscreen swaps. I came across this yesterday while browsing through some old Tech Bulletins.

Here's a few pics of mine, remeber this is a 993 CLONE so don't be fooled by the wipers! I used ALL glass from a 993, My garage is a mess and I'm still on crutches until the end of the month, so these will have to do.
