Is this a rare car?

Saw a 76 911 Carrera the other day. I thought all 76 911s had the great and famous 2.7. But this one had a 3.0 supposedly from the factory? It had the AC vents in the cab but no AC compressor on the engine. White with a odd looking green interior. I wanted to write down the vin munber but no pen in sight. 50,000 on the clock.

Is this car worth something (rare) or has someone has been playing aroung with it?

Probably a European Carrera. Worth substantially more than the 2.7L cars...

On impact bumper cars, aren't only the 1974 Euro 2.7's the same as the famous carrera's and these are the only ones that are {relitavely} any good? I thought anything else was to be avoided!

In 76' and 77' the 911 and 911S had the 2.7 motor. The Carreras had a 3.0.

All had CIS injection.

In 74' and 75' the 911, 911S and the Carrera were all built a 2.7 motor. (except the Carrera RS 3.0) The Euro Carreras had the same 2.7 MFI motor as the 73' Carrera RS that you refer to.

Man do you guys know your cars or what!!!

I think I remember hearing that the car was bought in Germany (service guy I think) and then brought over to the U.S.

The girl driving it has NO clue what it is(6 cyl, 4cyl who cares). She just knows it is a Porsche and looks good from far away. It needs a good restore.

She took fourth place in our annual antique car parade. Out of 4 cars. A restored '62 356B took first and I took 2nd with my '73 914 2.0. My uncle's 63 356B took 3rd. Maybe next year all the '77 and older P car owners on the board should show up and have a good time. There were over 360 total cars in the parade. About 55 classes(Chevys, Fords, Hudsons, ect)

I'll try to get the vin from the car and engine to see if it is a match. Don't hold your breath though.

Jim, just remember that if it's a 76 Carrera with the 3.0 engine it will be a gray market car and should have an import sticker on the drivers door post that mentions who imported it (it won't be Porsche, it should say someone elses name) as that's how gray market cars got to the US. The DOT requires some indication permanently afixed to each car indicating the importer.
We got no 3.0 liter cars until the SC in 1978, (non-turbocharged 3.0 liter anyway) the 76/77 cars were the first cars to use the SC engine. They are very nice cars but you should be sure to check on the condition of the car in terms of rust etc. as it probably lived a portion of it's life in Europe.

Was the car parade in Hamilton? I used to live in Fairfield. Was it open to all makes of cars?

Yes the parade was in Hamilton. It was the 40th something year. I think it is the oldest antique car parade in the country. It is open to any original manufactured car (no kit cars or modified street rods) older that 25 years from present year. Old Chevys, Model T's, Hudsons, Triumphs, Corvettes, Comaros, Mustangs, etc. I have heard some cars were turned away because they had chrome wheels instead of the stock ones. Not sure if that is true. But I have alloys (never seen them before so I don't know the make of the wheels) and they let me in. I took 1st place in '99, didn't place in '00, didn't drive in '01, and placed 2nd this year. All in all a good time driving through all the red lights!! This was only the second year of the Porsche only class. Ted Hunter who won 1st with his 356B said he is sending the results into PCA. Come on back home and drive in it next year. There is a trophy for the car driven the farthest to the parade. You would no doubt win.

The Carrera 3.0's engine is based on the Turbo engine, yes, but on the 3.0 Turbo engine, not on the 3.3 Turbo engine like the SC. The 3.0 is A LOT lighter, and revs more freely. Add to that the magnesium cased gearbox, and you have a good weight gain.
The last of the light engines, the first of the EFI.

My car is not 25 yrs. old, But my sister and her husband have a 1970 442. (and numerous Harleys) I will have to let them know about this if they don't already know. What is next years scheduled date? Does it go up Main and High street?

Just a note to any 'prospectors' out there ... NOT ALL '76 ROW Carreras had the 3.0 CIS engine!

The first 124 or so '76 Carreras built were 2.7 models with the famous 911/83 MFI engine, great exhaust system, great 915/08 transaxle with pump and 7:31 gearing! Australia and South Africa were the primary export markets these cars were sent to.

So, not all '76 cars with 2.7 engines are to be automatically avoided ... especially if one passes you with a distinctive MFI howling exhaust note!

Spot on with the '76 Carrera 2.7. More details:
The chassis numbers were 9116609XXX (123 cars), the same 609 sequence is found on the 3.0 RS, the 3.0 RSR.
They were homologated as Carrera RS, making them the least known RSs
they had no electric windows, no tinted glass, no thermostatic heating, sportseats, and some lightweight variations.
They were built by porsche at the demand of German racers, who had to use the current fuel induction system on their cars, and who felt the CIS was no good.
I think most of them went to Germany, Italy and Switzerland.

The parade goes down Main st, River rd, Nilles(stoppes here for 45 minutes) back down Pleasant to the Court house. The 442 would fit right in. Parade is usually the 4th weekend in July. Also the HOTTEST . The big block cars are usually overheating by the end. I assume the 442 has a 454ci. Just carry extra water. There were only a couple of bikes (I think is was a Triumph) this year. Most of the time its and old panhead or something. I have even seen a couple of old Schwinns.

You could send some of that rain over here. Everything is VERY dry. I haven't cut grass in over 3 weeks. On second thought................keep that rain to yourself!!!

It has a 455ci. and does have problems with over heating. Do you think they would let them drive the parade route at 80mph to keep it cool?

One in the same...Savage Auto Parts....sort of. My Grandfather (my dads dad) started the business in Gary, IN. Moved here after the depression and he ran it with his three sons (Ernie,Bob,Art). My dad (Ernie) and brothers sold the business in 75 (I was 15). Hank bought it and liked the name (well known in the auto parts circle), and kept it Savage! So I wish they could have "saved" the business for me but I didn't have a clue what I wanted to do after school. Plus mom told me later that dad didn't think the auto parts business was a good job to get into. DUH!?! I guess he saw the headaches that come with running yur own business.

PWD 72s... The vin # is 9116-600-199. On the door post is "Made in Germany (duh) 908-9-2 KUNSPHARZLACK". The guy didn't know where to look for the engine vin #. Neither do I! Could you tell me any more about it. It does have the A/C vents in the interior but no A/C in the engine bay. I thought that was strange. Is the green interior easy to find? The seats need redone. Carpet needs replaced.
