Question Three door plug questions...

Hi guys I've repainted my 84 and am in the process of putting all the pieces together. I have a few questions about covering the holes in my passenger side door. ( BTW: the door is from a 964 or other later replacement as it has oval window frame cover plugs rather than the two round ones)

One: I found this rubber plug fallen inside the door but have no idea where it came from. Anyone know where it's from, and why it's so large compared to it's retention barb? Is it a bumper for the window mechanism or something?

Two: I have this huge hole in the front edge of the door (same diameter as the rubber plug above, incidentally). Can anybody tell me what this is plugged with? I can't imagine it was supposed to be open like this... it would let all sorts of weather/crap into the door.

Three: These holes have always been open. I could plug them with 3mm trim plugs, but are they there for a reason? Look like screw holes to me. Anybody have theirs covered?

As always, thanks for all your help over the years here!

Anybody care to look at their own doors to see if they have similar holes and what are in them? Pretty please

Isn't the hole in the second picture for the window/mirror wires?

Comments on the 3 pics:

1. I don't know what that plug would be for.
2. I don't have a hole like that on the driver's door of my '87, and I can't get the door open far enough on the passenger side to see if I have something like that. I would guess no.
3. Again, my '87 doesn't have those 2 holes:

However, I know I've seen pics of other doors that DO have those 2 holes in them. I have sometimes seen them with nothing in them, and other times I've seen screws in them.

@DaddyGlenn: thanks for the inspiration. I rechecked my 964 PET and it shows a bellows-type protector for the 964 wiring harness. Our wires come thru the door via three grommet holes ahead of this big hole. This big hole is obviously for the 964 door/mirror/window wires. My door either had all these holes pre-drilled or the three smaller ones were drilled after the fact. Regardless, I haven't been able to find a listing for a plug this big so I guess I'll have to find or make one.

@wrxnofx: thanks for your help too! My drivers' side doesn't have those two little screw holes like the psgr side does. No problem, I found some Chrysler plugs that do the trick nicely. Thanks again!

Now if I just knew what that other big rubber plug was for... it's bugging me because I don't want to seal up the door and then find out it prevents the window from rattling while it's down or some darn thing like that.

Big hole is for wiring bundle as stated above. The 2 little holes secure plastic covers inside the door that protect the latching mechanism. These started I think on the 964.

Thanks RSTarga. No inside cover in my door so I'll plug them. The only question now is that
40mm rubber plug. Maybe it's not from this door? (but it was inside it when I took the old vapour barrier off). The barbed bit fits in a door clip retention hole nicely. If no one with a 964 has seen this in their door I'll just go ahead and close her up. I'm sure I'll sleep again someday... LOL.
