When I bought my '87 from the original owner, it had a the dealer-installed telephone option.

This setup included a remote mic located in the dash near the underside of the steering wheel hub. I don't know if the remote mic was original, or was later added. Amusingly, the phone included a handset with coil cord that connected it to the under-seat radiotelephone unit.

Of course, this was not a modern system. But the fact that it was included indicates that hands-free calling in a 911 is possible, even with the lower-tech microphones & noise cancellation that existed at that time. But that was with the original exhaust system, not the Euro premuffler and 2-out sport exhaust I installed.

Btw, I held on to the unit, so I can make the car 100% period original.

My daughter called it a "spy phone" because it looks like Sean Connery era James Bond technology.

I think they go to school for that

Other things that they learn on the course is that we have "stupid cars" and "loser friends"

From what I have gathered, those two terms are known internationally from Australia to North America

Pioneer DEH 9500 works great...mic stuck to the windshield right up next to the A pillar. Great interface and works fins windows up or down. With the top down I can hear the caller, but they have a hard time hearing me.

With my 87 with the cat bypass and relatively poor AC (meaning the windows are down mostly), any hi tech or hi end sound is essentially worthless. Blue tooth just makes the person who called mad that they can't hear you talking besides the obvious safety issue. A stereo that makes some volume is about all I feel like is needed to get some tunes inside over the noise. I try to use some patience and discipline to pull over and shut it down to make a call.

I recently bought a decent pioneer headset with bluetooth for my car running through 5" door speakers but the background noise makes it practically unusable to take a call.
I have a C3 coupe with SSI's and a sport exhaust with no sound insulation on the firewall.
I need a better solution!
I have an iPhone 4S any advice appreciated.
I was thinking of trying a Parrot in car kit anyone had success with it?

I appreciate the lack of concentration when talking on the phone debate as fact as I have the speeding tickets to prove it but need a workable phone during working hours.

Cheers
Bill

I also agree, and don't forget that a passenger is a second pair of eyes, and the passenger also can quiet down, if the driver is making a difficult maneuver, not like a caller on the other side of the phone call who has no idea what is going on.

Stay away from any Alpine head units, they always need software updates and they're hard to find and install. Sony always a good bet, install and use. no complications.
