-69 through 72 tub (early tub for weight and wheel base or 72 for the oil tank)
-stock fenders and flares -Varioram 3.6 (stock to simplify matters). If you must have something more exotic, a 3.6 with electromotive, …) -Headers to a factory looking sport muffler -Early style Recaro sport seats -Big reds (painted black to keep them “confidential”) -Custom offset Fuch’s based wheels to allow for the calipers -SRP sway bars -Close ratio steering rack -center fill gas tank -RS spoiler (to allow for a large cooler) cooling aside, I’d go 911R That should net an approx 2000 pound car with 290-320 HP with tons of torque, unreal reliability and stopping power to go with it. Then I’d put an emblem reading “911 PRS” (Pelican RennSport). I’ll build one of this one day. |
Anyone else thought of coil-on-plug ignition?
I'm looking into it for my 69S. I figured it would clean up the engine bay and let me use crank-fired ignition for acuracy and reliability. Bob |

John Cramer and I were discussing this very issue on Monday night, and the result was a 911R clone. 210hp out of 2.0 liters in an 1800 lb. car -- that would be very very cool.

I'd need 3 cars to complete my dreams, 1st a real 917 with a liscense plate somehow, a GT1 also with a plate, and for my non-porsche needs I'll take an original GT40 with a modernized injected twin-turbo 5.0 engine. All this of course will require diplomatic immunity, the most vital part of the dream. Of course I wouldn't mind squeezing a 993TT motor into my '66 :D

If I only had the cash...
These would be the projects (clones) I would consider:
`67 R `73 RS. `73 RSR 2.8. `74 RSR 3.0. If I had to pick one, it would probably be the `74 RSR 3.0. IMO, if you do decide on an early RSR project, you gotta go "all the way", with the engine (twin plug, slide valve injection, rods, cams, headers/megaphones, etc.). I think it would also be cool to replicate one of the early racing liveries like Jagermeister or Martini. The `94 RSR 3.8 is pretty appealing too, if you are considering a semi-modern car. I have actually seen a few factory cars (not projects/clones) for sale in Europe for around $75k. By the time you are finished with an early RSR project, you might have close to the same, or more $$ invested anyway. Also, just an FYI: There is a FACTORY `74 RSR 3.0 (correct engine, trans, suspension, mag wheels, etc.) for sale up here in my neck of the woods for $110K. I belive it just needs some finish work and paint. |
What if you flipped a 3.0 w E cams and MFI / G50 so it was mid engined...
in a strippy 69T, around 1850- 1950#s, with tiny flares, maybe 6's and 7's (must remain stealthy) fiberglass split nose front and RS rear bumpers... plexi windows all around, corduroy on the seats and rubber mats instead of carpets... bilsteins, 930 brakes.... kind of an "aged patina" paintjob.... |
