Pricing between Tirerack and Pelican

So, I'm in the market for new shocks. The pricing between Tirerack and our host is quite different and I'm wondering if there is something I'm getting with the shocks from Pelican that I wouldn't be getting from Tirerack. Has anyone priced out Bilsteins and noticed this difference? I'd rather buy from Pelican.

Interesting. Appears Tire Rack has gotten aggressive with their pricing. I compared them to Pelican last summer when I upgraded and there was very little difference in pricing. -J

I just bought Bilstein HD for the front for $396 a pair from Elephant Racing. Pelican's price was $220 each or $440 a pair.

Sorry Pelican but I've got to shop around. I did spend about $1k from Pelican in the past two months.

Has anyone asked Pelican to price match? Isn't some profit better than no profit?

I think there's no expectation on the part of Pelican that we're going to buy everything for our cars from the site and I'm sure they understand that the forum is the primary form of advertising for the business but just like there's no obligation from us, there's no obligation from Pelican to price match, they could be stuck with stock they purchased and are unwilling to sell it for a loss so they make a decision to sell at a price and we make a decision to buy at a price.

There is a certain convenience factor of buying everything you need from one place some people will pay for that convenience, others won't.

BTW my spend rate here is $100 a month for my 18 months of ownership.

Just had my Bilstein HD delivered to my desk, order from Bilstein Canada / Essex Distributors, $185.00 ea CDN, plus $10.00 shipping, not an overly pleasant experience, one month delivery. 3 unanswered emails on status update. Took a phone call to get an update. Our host is my favorite supplier, great service!, I hate the border brokerage fees, but that is not their issue.

Yikes. I bought my Bilstein sports from a Quebec distributor and paid a whale of a lot more for them. Got 'em at the wrong place, I guess.

Pelican offers a Project List function and complete history of your orders, among other free tools to registered users. Additionally, if I ever sell my 911 a complete history of my car is embedded in this 'Board - just pass my byname to the prospective buyer.

So for convenience, parts availability, and technical help I usually shop here. But I do agree that Pelican cannot expect any of us to be monogamous.

I try to support those in the Porsche community that offer good service. So far I've bought from Pelican, Steve Weiner, Elephant and Steve Wong. All excellent to do business with.

I bought from Clint(Rebel Racing) I just had to have his bushing set. I would have bought more, but we all know his reputation for being available. Maybe that's changed.

I bought my wheels from Fikse, awesome product and I'd assume best 17" Fuch on the market. Communication was lacking, but they got it done.

If I found a significantly better price on an item that Pelican carries from another vendor, I'd given Pelican an opportunity to match/beat that price before buying from another vendor. Given the service Pelican provides us, I'd rather give Pelican the opportunity to sell at a reduced markup/profit than give the profit to a third party.

Price isn't always the best way to decide...customer service, dependability, warranty, ease of transactions are all more important to me that saving a few bucks. Everyone wants the best deal; the rub is that the best deal is many times not the lowest price.

+1 - I like and will pay for good customer service. IMO - we want Pelican to make a good profit, the profit provides the funding for this website. Think of the time, effort and money saved by knowledge obtained here. In some cases I'll bet cars are up and running that otherwise would be sitting in a garage, that's worth something.

I usually buy pelican. On some items I shop price. Usually when it's a known brand that would be the same anywhere. Bilsteins would fall into that category. I bought mine from here... Back then there wasn't a big difference. I also price shop when I'm ready to buy.
