Can i shim my calipers?

So I went out and bought a set of rotors, part corresponding to my car, now when I install and tighten, the inner side of the caliper hits the rotor!!!

Can I shim it so the caliper moves a millimeter or 2?

Is that a rear? Install the dust shield, automatic spacer.

Yes you can shim - washers will be fine.
I'd leave off the 'rock' shield unless you plan to do a lot of driving in the snow or heavy rain where the danger (?) of a wayward rock will find it way into the assembly and wedge itself between the brake pad and rotor.
If you do go with washers as shims, I would make it part of my routine maintenance to re-torque the caliper bolts everytime the wheels are off.

What year is your car? Are you absolutely sure you got the right rotors? If you got Carrera rotors (24mm thick) vs. SC rotors (20mm thick), that would explain the clearance problem.

Dust shield does not shim the caliper in front because the shield is screwed to the strut knuckle and has a cutout for the caliper to clear it.

FYI tech info. i've found says caliper center vs. rotor center should be no more than 0.020" (0.5m) Pro-System, Inc.

Did you compare your new rotor with the old one?
Are you still using the same hubs?

Agreed i'd compare an old rotor with the new one. Maybe the wrong rotor was put in the box. 205197 is indeed the right part number for your '84 Carrera

What Kevin said. I received some brake pads once that were mislabeled on the box. Quality control is not what it used to be.
