Where does this wire originate?
After several months of inactivity, I am finally starting the reassembly process. I've done the chain covers and seals, valve cover seals and valve adjust, refreshed all the exhaust studs, etc. I am not at the point where i am trying to remount the cooling shroud and I am a little stumped as tot he alternator wiring.
Any idea where the highlighted wire originates? There are clearly three wires attached to the harness, and this picture that I took during disassembly show four connections. Any idea? I have the blue, the red and the brown leads accounted for. Thanks in advance... ![]() |

Ahh, I thought that might be what that was. That's the one that has the ring terminal on the rear bolt, correct?

From a thread a while back:
"I just disassembled the fan/alternator on my 86 Carrera cab this evening and here is my small contribution: Blue wire held by 7mm nut and washer, 2 brown wires 1 thick one attached to one of the engine bolts for ground, 1 thinner one goes to the harness held by 8mm nut and washer, 1 big red wire held by a 10mm nut and washer. Alas it was too dark to take pictures during disassembly." Also read Will Ferch's article

2. Large red wire goes to starter terminal where Positive wire lands, Small red wire goes to 14 pin engine connector. (pin 14) 3. Blue wire goes to 14 pin engine connector. (pin 11) 4. Brown wires go to various engine devices like the heater fan motor as the ground portion of the circuit.
