vent cable routing

I am attempting to reinstall the 3 knob ventilation control unit with the three wire cables back into my 1980 SC. They were removed quite a long time ago, so I do not remember where they route through under the dash to the back of the dash in the trunk. I have done a search of the forum and came up with threads on the removal and install but no pictures showing where they route through under the dash or in the trunk. I do have a small hole on the bulk head right near the control unit but It seems to be a very tight route for the cables. Can some one provide me with a picture for clarification.

Pages 850-2 through -5 of the Bentley covers the cable routing for the 84-89 M/Y which should be the same as your M/Y 80.

Good luck,

Gerry

Gerry,

I only have the Haynes manual, Porsche Parts and Tech Ref Catalog and the PET program for references. I have no problem with how they are connected to function properly. My issue is where the three cables penetrate into the trunk from under the dash.

Mine run under the steering column and then up through a large rubber grommet neat the ignition switch into the area behind the gauges if that helps.

Tim,

I have the large rubber grommet with the three holes for the cables but I have not found the hole that the grommet fits in. You say yours passes thru near the ignition switch. all of the holes near the ignition switch area are used by cable connector plugs. Hopefully someone can provide a picture of the actual location.

Ok, you owe me a beer and some pain killers for getting you these pictures.
I'm 6'2" and getting too old for the contortions required to get under there !
Hopefully they explain it .

Follow the fancy blue fiberglass wrapped wire that I ran through the same grommet for an added accessory I installed.
First picture should give you general orientation to the other plugs by the ignition switch. Note the gold column support on the left and the ignition switch barely visible in the rear right, and the direction the blue wire is headed.

The second picture shows the grommet in question in relation to the gold colored steering support piece with the blue wire running through it with the heater control cables. It is really up in there, so to speak!
My car is a '78 so maybe they changed it, but I really doubt it.

Dennis,

Thank you for the pictures, they are just what I needed. I can appreciate the pain you went through to take them. Fortunately, all of my interior is out of the car and I have a long lounge chair cushion on the floor board.
Even with that it is still a back breaker.

Yeah, the better picture would have been of me upside down on my seat with my head stuck up under there.. Would have been easier the night before when I had my steering wheel off to fix my darn turn signal switch that was turning on the high beams by itself on any hard bump in the road...
The trick was fitting my fat head between the wheel and the shifter to get in there...
