Backdating Rear Windows?

Ok so it's hot this summer, really hot. My SC has no A/C. I have been fine most of the time, but it is definitely not suit weather. I have been researching the A/C thing, and it seems pretty involved. I have contacted another member of the board and plan on buying his A/C unit. I will still follow through with the purchase, but my question is:

How much trouble would it be to backdate to early moveable 1/4 /wing/vent windows?

I assume that I need the old glass, latches, pivots, and seals. Is this a major $$ issue? How hard a transition is this? Would I be smarter to try to backdate the front vent windows? Should I do both?

Any thoughts welcome, no I am not trying to keep stock, and leaving off A/C is attractive for weight reasons.

Thanks in advance.

you know, I've been considering the same thing for years. I have collected some parts, but not everything. I'd love to hear the thoughts of someone who has already been down this road.

My roommate's 72 has the vent windows. I suppose i could just take them apart and compare. I would be worried about breaking something I don't own, however.

Cool

have the open type rear vent windows..want to change all glass to '88 AC tinted windows but was concerned about replacing the vent glass..I read here that the unit pops out after removing a screw or 2..my original tinted glass must have faded..there is info around in archives...........Ron

Yes you can do that.

Our reagional PCA mechanic has done several, including his personal car. You just need the latches and old style windows. I can get you his number if you would like.

Rarly

That would be great. If you would, send me a PM with his #. I've found some of the hardware, but not the inner latches. I would also like to know if the mounting holes are still in the body under the headliner. Would Porsche have changed the body stamping or just covered them up?
Thanks,
PS- How soon till your monster is moving?

Boy, the grass is always greener, I guess. I've considered the opposite.

If your car is in the rain much, you might want to re-think venting rear windows. I've always assumed that Porsche did away with them because of their tendency to leak.

What? You actually drive your car in the rain? I'm not even sure my wipers work.

I'll get that number for you. The turbo is alive and in the tuning phase. I hope to actually drive the car a little this weekend.
