Bench-testing a 915
Is there a way to confirm that a 915 will shift properly when installed in a car, on the bench?

I have wondered the same thing short of building a stand with a seat and clutch assembly.

Test shift after rebuild........
Quote:
Shaun, When I did my 915 rebuild many years ago and 'test shifted' the 915 transmission on the bench (less transmission fluid). But be aware that '1st gear' would be on the opposite side (5th gear) and everything is reverse location. I had a collar with handle placed on the shift lever to facilitate the shifting. With this simple method, I was able to get into different gears (1,2,3,4,5, & R). HTH. Tony |

![]() You cannot simulate loads during a bench test; all you can do is to select gears.

i would just bench test it by trying every gear and make sure each one turns freely. thats really all you can do
