SC heater backdate question
Working on my '78 SC and wondering if the heat would work just fine if I remove the egine compartment heater fan and replace left rear engine tin block off plate with the one that is available with the 90 degree elbow exiting to the right. Then I would just run a flex duct from that el to the stock SC collector on the right. The left side I was gonna leave the stock plastic snorkel in place and run a duct from it to the left collector? I'd love to get a set of SSIs but its not in the current budget.
Would this work? It would be a lot cheaper than other solutions I have read about and I can,t figure why it wouldn't,t work just fine... Thanks Bill |

Should work just fine. If I didn't have SSI's I would do the same. Should really clean up the engine bay for you.

I'm kind of confused with what you wrote. Are you thinking to change the right side block off plate to the proper backdate piece but leave the current plastic heater duct on the left side?
If so, I believe that the output of the left side duct is much larger than the tubing that you would need to use. You would need to come up with some reducer to make it the right size.

OK Kerthunk, that is true, the diameters are different and I was gonna find some sort of reducer from a turbo shop or something...
Is that the main advantage of the $300- snorkel version that Pelican and others sell? |

Yeah, the factory one is the right shape if you are looking at also switching out other bits of the engine tin to make things looks "factory correct".

With a reducer that will work fine. I did something similar - see my thread here: A Cheap SC Heater Backdate
Feel free to PM me if you have any questions or ask around/search. Backdating on the cheap isn't too uncommon!
