73 Front Trunk Carpet Question...

In the attached photo (one of Pelican's offerings for trunk carpet sets) there is a smaller section shown between the two trunk side carpets.

I have an original set in great shape that I have cleaned up for re-installation. However, that smaller piece has evidence of having been "contact cemented" along one edge. Problem is, I can't figure out where it was originally attached by the factory. I am afraid I cleaned up the trunk to well to find evidence of the cemented area.

Can someone shed light on this as to where it is supposed to be glued?

Regards,

Bill

I think it may have been glued to the side felt and held a plywood stretcher in place, but going on memory from a long time ago. Mine is missing. I'm sure someone else I will know for sure.

This is from memory also. In my 73, I believe the short piece with the plywood insert had one side glued under the lip of the front bulkhead--under where the trunk latch mechanism is located--to the vertical sheet metal. Could be mistaken, but check to see if that fits the location of the piece and the cemented edge.
