Speedometer. HELP

The other day my speedometer needle started to get twitchy, erratic, then it just died and the the odometer s failed as well.

So is it electrical or gauge gear wheels worn out.

Sounds like it isn't getting a signal (electrical) easy enough to pull out the speedo and check the connections.
I just had to have mine repaired because of worn gears, odometer quit but speedo kept working.

What year is it? Based off what you said the wires may be coming loose off the sending unit on the transaxle. But it could also be a speedo cable that broke, depending on the year of the car.

What year and model do you have?

Could be a bad speedo cable, bad sender, wiring issues, gauge needs service, etc..

I've done two 74 speedos and am betting on cable coming unplugged or breaking. Mine were odo not turning but speedo was fine.
