I must radiate zen-like peace or something, in 15 years of ownership, not once have I been "challenged" on the street. At most, I've received a compliment of "nice car," but usually it's total indifference.

Rich Gas, perhaps you came on too strong in your intro - it definitely had a humblebrag tone which, along with questionable public road antics, probably rubbed some people the wrong way.

Anyway, welcome aboard.

Hugo

In summary; the OP presented a long post describing a strange, road rage like incident between himself and another driver when he was out, hauling ass on his favorite public road. Several people, myself included, proceeded to yank his chain about driving like a fool and writing about it as if he were Sebastian Vettel on the streets of Monaco . At this point he said that he has been tearing up public roadways, regardless of the risk to himself and others, since the 1970s, and that it is OK because he is such a good driver, and the rest of us are posers and don't have the stones to drive fast on public roads. He then got upset about additional cat calls and beat feet.

Yep. That sounds more or less like something that Sedastian Vette would say and or do.

I haven't gone anywhere... Just tired of the BS. I never once stated I broke any law in my first intro. Not once. I drove aggressively, but didn't cross any lines or break any speed limit (none posted). Move on.

I liked his post, some of you need to use your inside voice and refrain from keyboard usage

All will be forgiven if you post pixtures of your car.
People get real testy here if you are new and only type words without pictures...

I appreciate the effort sacoffe and timmy2. Man was I attacked. I was just reading the Mulholland drive thread in off topic the other day... Then I had this crazy thing happen to me... I was excited to share this with fellow enthusiasts... Really detailed, corner by corner. Boy was that a flop. No intention of breaking laws, just a pure (although aggressive) driving experience. I've waited years to join, and needed to talk to etarga about his Led light package, so I thought I'd introduce myself. Sorry I did. Some of the people I admire on here have really surprised me. Hmmm. Did not expect that. I have purchased thousands of dollars of parts from Pelican, and used the knowledge I've gained from this site to do the work on my car.
Better to lurk.

RG- As a retired cop I can understand how some, many feel regarding your post. The possible loss of life, theirs loved ones etc even a stupid animal. I have been here for many years and would bet my life that everyone of us have fkd up somehow along the line. Up where I live (chi town) it's hard to be able to get the oil up to 180 unless your stuck in traffic. I would give anything to be able to wind her up the way you did and envy you. I personally think the great detail given in your post might have felt like fingers on a blackboard to some. As you stated there is so much to learn here and so many friends to be made it would be worth staying. Life is too short lets all have fun while we can. Posted this on my iphone so don't burn me for improper English

Thanks emac. Riding a motorcycle in a club around this area has fine tuned my senses, I guess. Anything I say about it will sound like bragging to you guys... So I don't know what to say. You wouldn't like those stories either. I'm taking the car out again now... See you on the road

Rich,
Every now and again, I manage to blow the cobwebs out, usually happens when AC/DC is louder than average. The ones pissing and moaning the loudest are probably the ones who polish instead of drive. Funny my "It happened again" series never attracted this level of angst.
See ya on the Skyline, Hwy 9 GP circuit!
Odd I just noticed my preference for vehicles manufactured in the 4th year of a decade....

I read the original post yesterday before it was edited to a one-liner. I knew you would get flamed by a few folks here. You have to remember, there are a fare number of driving enthusiasts that didn't respond or see much wrong with your post. But, there are also quite few very talented racers and instructors here. To that second audience, your antics were more like fingernails on a chalkboard. So, what you did was not universally embraced. No need to whine about it...

I did have one thought as I read the original post... Your actions obviously magnified the danger posed by the a$$hat behind you. Had you reeled in the ego a bit, the yuppie probably wouldn't have been turning sideways in the road trying to keep up. Just sayin'...

Late to the party...again. Never got a chance to read OP's original post, but I think I got the gist of this thread. If you own a Porsche and spend time on this forum, obviously you are an enthusiast and I bet dollars to doughnuts every one of us has driven a tad aggressively on public roads at one point or another. There is a very fine line between aggressive and dangerous and the risk is that you can cross over to the latter before you even know it. That said, it would be hypocritical of many members here to give the OP **** for enjoying his car in a spirited fashion. We've all done it if you've owned a Porsche.

Rich,

I, for one, enjoyed the story. I get challenged all the time and it's all I can do sometimes to refrain. In fact just yesterday an E36 M3 got right on my tail as I'm returning home from my daughter's orthodontist appointment. We ended up side by side at a light with some room in front of us. There was no way I was going to take the bait with my daughter in the car (she tells her mother everything!). Had I been alone, it probably would have been game on!

Anyway, I used to frequent a popular BMW forum when I had an E39 528i. This forum had a "kills Stories" subforum where members would brag about who they beat in a race with their car. I'm sure there's probably a "I smoked a 911" story on there today!

Your story and what you did doesn't bother me. Peoples opinion of what you did, whether they agreed with it or not, doesn't bother me. It's when some result to name calling, that's what bothers me. There's just no need for that here. Stick around, most here are good folk.

I read and enjoyed your post Rich Gas. I enjoy driving my car fast when familiar with the surroundings. I don't think you were excessive in your actions. A lot of stone throwers in these glass houses.

Let's Be Civil

I agree on several fronts.

First, I'll bet most of us are guilty of letting our testosterone get the better of us once in a while. It's just easier to let it rip in a Porsche.

Second, the prose was well written and interesting even if you didn't agree with the driving style. We probably have never had unanimous agreement on anything here. That's good and the way it should be.

That leads to my last comment. Disagreement is fine and even expected. Personalizing a disagreement should be considered a breach of board etiquette.

Name calling lowers the collective IQ on this forum. I think we're better than that.

Let's always agree to disagree but let's do it with more class than you see on other forums.

Thanks fellas.

I hope this doesn't sound weird, but I try not to let fear dictate how I live my life. That's why I couldn't comprehend the response I got. Wouldn't have wrote what I did... Hmmm
F'n government making us all crazy... Time for a revolution my friends.
