Any Advice on How to Remove the Throw Out Bearing?

I need to change out the throw out bearing - This is for a '74 911 915 Trans.

It looks like there is a circlip in there but hard to tell as there are no tiny holes for a tool to grab. I'm sure I'll figure it out but thought I'd ask while I'm at work, maybe I'll know by the time I get home.

Use a little, itty-bitty screwdriver to loosen one end of the circlip, get under the clip and pull. It's easy; once you've done it a hundred times... Don't ding yourself!

EDIT; Put a wood block, a little bigger than the TOB, on your bench, set the TOB against the block, and push down on the pressure plate a little...

You really need a press to do this right. You may damage yourself without one!

I,ve done it with pressure from my knees on the floor, so have lots of guys. If you have a drill press you can bridge the TOB with a piece of 2x4 and compress it. The 2x4 leaves enough space to pry up the lock ring

you push down on the PP with the sides of both hands while using a small pair of expanding pin style snap ring pliers in one hand. a press? bwaaaaa!

Ok, just to clarify:

In the photo below, the snap ring is the very thin ring that is next to the very center sleeve. You cannot see it in this photo but there is a small 1/4" gap in this ring and I need to somehow pry it out. I've already tried with snap ring pliers but that won't work. I will try again with a tiny screw driver.

Next, I need to put a block of wood under the existing throw out bearing - But what side of the pressure plate faces down? Afterwards, I will use my fat a$$ to push down on the pressure plate. Once I get the spring to move - then what? How does the throw out bearing come out?

I know these questions may sound stupid and maybe once I get some movement, I will understand. But, with the spring being so strong, I cannot currently get any movement and so it's had to tell which way things are supposed to move.

Thanks again for more tips. I plan to do this this weekend as I just picked up my newly resurfaced flywheel. (and yes, I am going to use new bolts).

Put your knees on either side of the pressure plate as you have it in the picture. That will relieve the tension on the thrust washer and you can spread the circlip with snap ring pliers or two screwdrivers. Maybe this will help: It's only the tension from spring #4 in the diagram that you need to overcome.

Make sure that you see how #4 is installed and put it back the right way!!!

^^^ What he said. I did mine at night in a frick'n semi-dark garage, trying to make it upstairs before the wife killed me. Put the motor back in the next day, pumped the clutch a few times and right to the floor it went. TO bearing popped right off. ugh!

THANKS! It looks like it needs to be installed opposite the natural curve of the springs.

I got the old throw out bearing removed and now to install the new.
