What is this engine "plug" ?
Sorry if this is a beginner's question, but what's this plug seen below in gold (left?)
![]() I've looked at a few 911 engine cases today, most have it case color, not gold... It does not appear to be removeable (by me anyway)... One car had what looked like JB weld over that area... No cracks at all in the case around it, so, guessing that can leak ? The odd part is the JB welded one was a complete motor, fresh rebuild, case split by a reputable shop. So what do you think the deal is ? Precaution or something afoot ? It's was not leaking... Last edited by Deschodt; 11-27-2013 at 03:46 PM.. |

Machining plug, most will cover them with jb weld to help from any oil seepage.

Thank you. So not a disqualifying feature on a rebuilt engine where case was split, then ?

not at all, the original may have looked suspect or when I do major case work all the plugs come out so it can be cleaned, pretty much sop.
