How do you get 3.2l from a 3lt SC?
Hi
What would you end up with, if you fit Euro 3.2 10.3;1 pistons and barrels on a SC motor? Do you need to fit 98mm barrels due to the shorter stroke of the 3lt ? |

The stock 3.2 engine uses a longer throw to get displacement, the pistons are the same diameter as the 3.0 SC but have different connections to the rods so it won't work without some modifications. Then you will have to twin plug the heads to run the higher compression pistons. Really a lot of time, work and money for minimal gains.
To make a 3.0SC into a 3.2 you need to increase displacement by using bigger pistons and cylinders.

Engine displacement
For about the same money you can use 100mm pistons and cylinders and get 3.3 liters displacement. However, at this size bore, twin plugging is required. It all boils down to the old saying "horsepower costs money, how fast do you want to go?". Another thing to consider is that it is generally accepted that "horsepower is in the heads". To really wake up a 3.2SS or 3.3SS you will want bigger ports, upgraded exhaust and improved intake system. A set of hotter cams would also help! Down the slippery slope!

I used a nice set of Carrera twin plug heads on my 3.3SS. They had previously been on a track engine, had the ports cleaned up and had titanium valve spring retainers. I had to do some work on the SSI exhausts to make the exhaust ports match and had to open up the CIS intake runners from 39mm to 42mm to match the intakes. I am aware that the SSIs are probably too small in diameter for this engine, but they were on hand and will do until I can find/afford an exhaust with a larger diameter tubing.
