Fitting my IROC wing

So right up front I will admit to liking things to fit properly. A friend of mine always says, "it's race ready". What he means is the fit is a 20 footer. That just doesn't work for me.

Today I started fitting my IROC wing. It's a well made piece, but has a few fitment challenges.

First off, notice the edges of the engine compartment opening are straight:

But not the wing, in fact it is too wide to fit in the opening about 1/3 of the way down:

And there is a corner missing on the lower left side:

The actual problem is that the area under the straight edge need to be removed (where I've ground away the gel coat):

Cut up some strips of fg cloth and bond them in place:

Also, need to fill in the edge, but I don't want the repair to snap off after paint, so drill a few small holes and bond in some pins followed by long strand fg filler:

Thursday I'll grind and fit it and then sand the entire wing and start filling pin holes and imperfections.

So many projects, so little time!

Why are fiberglass panels made with such lousy tolerances? Quite a few threads here with some heavy modifications done in order for them to fit right.
