Using 3 pin Bosch CD unit with 3.0 L motor
I was told by a local Porsche mechanic that you can use the existing 3 pin cd unit of a 77 911 when transplanting a 3.0 L. He said you need to rewire the connector of the wire harness of 3.0 L to fit the 3 pin unit or use the wiring harness of the 2.7 L and rewire the alternator and associated items. Any ideas on this?

Must be a ricer mechanic used to blowin' smoke on the customers!
Is the engine a '77 ROW Carrera 3.0 engine? The 3-pin CDI-unit uses points, and needs a good ground signal! The SC distributor has a magnetic pickup coil and generates a very low Voltage signal ... NOT ground pulses! The 6-pin CDI-units have an amplifier that can handle the low Voltage signal! You can't mix the two types of distributors and CDI-units!
