Help: Specific 964 Cam questions

Hi all, long time reader(nine years), very rare poster. I usually search and find what I need.

I have an '84 Carrera 3.2 with SSI and Steve Wong chip. The car has 105K miles on it and is driven in a spirited fashion on road and track, the motor is in excellent condition and runs very well. I'm dropping my 915 tranny for a rebuild and have decided to install a 964 Camshaft while the motor is out. I've done some research on the cam but can't find or have missed some other information:

1. Do I need to change/reprogram the DME chip? I have an early '84 and had to send the whole box to Steve.

2. Is this really a straight swap or is there ANYTHING else that needs to be done regarding the camshaft?

I am mindful of all the things that need to be done while the motor is out, and they will be done.

Thank you!

1. Best to have the chip reprogrammed

2. One of the 964 cams needs to be machined to fit. Easy job though, no biggie.

More info here: Cost to remove power steering drive from 964 Cams?

Thanks Geronimo, didn't know about the PS grind, I'm sure I can do it "in house".

I'll call Performance Chips tomorrow. Does anyone have anything else about the chip? What are the parameters/reasons for the reprogramming?
